The Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Nelly Mutti, called for strengthened global cooperation, peace, justice, and inclusive development during the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) held in Istanbul.Addressing the high-level parliamentary gathering, Rt. Hon. Mutti emphasised the importance of dialogue, multilateral cooperation, and collective action in responding to growing global challenges, including conflict, inequality, climate change, and economic instability. She stressed that parliaments have a critical responsibility to champion democratic governance, sustainable development, and policies that safeguard the future of coming generations.Rt. Hon. Mutti, who serves on the Executive Committee of the IPU, participated in high-level deliberations that shaped the Assembly’s agenda and outcomes, reaffirming Zambia’s active engagement in international parliamentary diplomacy.Hosted by the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, the Assembly was convened under the theme: “Nurturing Hope, Securing Peace and Ensuring Justice for Future Generations.” The global event attracted more than 1,000 delegates from over 100 countries, underscoring its significance as one of the world’s leading platforms for parliamentary dialogue and international cooperation.In his opening remarks, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, Numan Kurtulmuş, underscored the urgent need for stronger international solidarity in addressing global challenges such as conflict, inequality, and instability. He called for enhanced parliamentary cooperation aimed at advancing peace, justice, and inclusive governance.A message delivered on behalf of António Guterres urged parliaments worldwide to translate international commitments into tangible action through effective legislation and oversight, particularly in advancing sustainable development, human rights, and peace.Meanwhile, IPU President Tulia Ackson highlighted the growing complexities facing the international community, including widening inequality and climate change, and called for renewed commitment to dialogue, inclusivity, and long-term, people-centred solutions.
