Zambia and Türkiye Sign Defence Industry Cooperation Agreement

Zambia and Türkiye have signed a Defence Industry Cooperation Agreement aimed at strengthening collaboration and promoting joint ventures in the defence sector.The agreement, signed in Ankara, will facilitate technological transfer and support Zambia’s efforts to advance its defence industry through cooperation with Türkiye’s well-established and technologically advanced sector.Zambia’s Minister of Defence, Hon. Ambrose Lufuma, signed the agreement on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Zambia, while Türkiye’s Secretary of Defence Industries, Prof. Haluk Görgün, signed on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Türkiye.Speaking after the signing ceremony, Hon. Lufuma reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to expanding cooperation, particularly through joint ventures that will enhance capacity building, skills development, and knowledge transfer.He noted that Türkiye is a global leader in defence industries and expressed confidence that the partnership would deliver mutual benefits to both countries.“This agreement marks an important milestone in strengthening the bilateral relations between Zambia and Türkiye and paves the way for sustainable cooperation,” said Hon. Lufuma.On his part, Prof. Görgün expressed appreciation for the partnership and reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to working closely with Zambia in implementing the agreement and advancing cooperation in the sector.The signing ceremony was witnessed by Zambia Ambassador to Türkiye, Lt. Gen. Dr. William Maipambe Sikazwe (Rtd.); Zambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Mulambo Haimbe; Zambia Army Commander, Lt. Gen. Geoffrey Zyeele; and senior officials from the Zambia Defence Force.
